We Are Hiring! Asheville School is looking for a Science Teacher.

Asheville School is seeking a qualified Science Teacher (Full-Time) to join the Science Department starting in August 2026. The school seeks a candidate who will also be an impactful athletic coach in afternoon programs, with specific coaching needs including basketball and lacrosse. Experience teaching physics is preferred.

A full-time faculty member at Asheville School contributes to all aspects of boarding school life, demonstrating excellence in the classroom, leadership in afternoon programs, guidance as an advisor, and active engagement as a member of a residential duty team.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Teaching: Teaching four sections of your discipline in a seven-period rotation.

  • Coaching & Activities: Participating in two out of three seasons of afternoon activities & athletics.

  • Advising & Residential Life:

    • Serving as an advisor.

    • Serving as a member of a residential duty team, including the possibility of living in one of the residential halls.

  • Community Engagement:

    • Serving as an integral part of the campus community, enthusiastically helping where needed.

    • Participating in Blues Core, Winterim, and Saturday Programming.

  • Professional Growth:

    • Staying abreast of changing pedagogies and educational technologies.

    • Participating in professional development opportunities.

Skills and Abilities Required

Candidates should meet the following criteria:

  • Education: Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and expertise in the subject area.

  • Experience: Experience working with middle and/or high school-age individuals/groups is preferred.

  • Skills:

    • Strong written and communication skills.

    • Strong technology skills.

    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and persevere.

  • Attributes:

    • Flexibility, adaptability, and enthusiasm for working in a residential boarding school environment.

    • Ability to engage learners and serve as a role model.

    • Demonstrate empathy, respect, and trustworthiness.

  • Requirements:

    • Possess a valid driver’s license.

    • Successfully complete a criminal and motor vehicle background check.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to see, talk, or hear.

  • Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, reach, stoop, kneel, or crouch.

  • Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
