Job Description

We Are Hiring! The Roxbury Latin School is looking for a History Teacher.

The Roxbury Latin School, an independent day school for 300 boys in grades 7–12 located in the West Roxbury neighborhood of Boston, seeks to appoint a full-time History Teacher to begin in August 2026. Founded in 1645, the school attracts a student body noted for its academic ability and diversity.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Teaching: Teaching a variety of departmental offerings, with the possibility of creating upper-level electives.

• Instructional Goals:

  • Awakening in students an understanding of the variety, complexity, and intersections of cultures and institutions past and present.

  • Developing strong critical thinking and writing skills in students.

  • Teaching with imagination and vigor.

• Collaboration: Collaborating with colleagues in a department that seeks to prepare students for full, deliberate, and committed citizenship in the broader community.

• Extracurricular Involvement:

  • Participating in two seasons of coaching a team sport or the equivalent in advising an extracurricular activity (e.g., Debate, Model UN, dramatics, publications, community service).

  • Serving as an advisor to several students.

Qualifications

Strong candidates will exhibit the ability to:

• Think about and articulate historical developments both large and small.

• Demonstrate a commitment to the school’s mission of preparing students for citizenship.

Remuneration & Benefits

• Salary: The salary range for this position is $80,000 – $140,000, depending on experience.
